And our California Vacation comes to an End...

Daddy finally shaving off his 2 weeks of beard growth is always the signal the vacation is coming to an end...this time Jacob got to do it!

Kayaking in Bodega

We went kayaking out in the ocean twice while camping in Bodega. Jacob was excited to see all the sea life, including sea stars, jelly fish, and seals. The ocean was really calm on our first kayaking venture, but the 2nd time the ocean got a bit rough on the way back. Waves were crashing over the bow onto Jacob, 2-3 motorboats waked Grandma & Papa, and it took us a really long time to get back into shore. But we all really enjoyed the adventure :)

Flying kites with Daddy in Bodega Bay

After Anchor Bay we drove down to Bodega Bay to dry camp on the beach for a couple days. It was really windy, so we were able to do some great kite flying. Jacob was really into it this year; especially when he and Daddy tried out some experiments of tying articles of clothing to the end of the string. Jacob's shoes worked very well, and were fun to chase down the beach :)

let's see what happens if we tie Jacob's shoes to the end...

Playing 'boat' in Anchor Bay

One of Jacob's favorite afternoon activities was to watch his toy boat go in and out with the waves. The water was freezing, but didn't seem to bother Jacob at all. Luckily Daddy had his booties and wet suit to keep him warm.

Kayaking on the Gualala River

This year we came with 2 kayaks to try out on the river. And this time Jacob went with us, since he's now a well seasoned kayaker from so much practice at the reservoir. The current was much slower than last year, being 2 months later in the season, so we tried paddling down and then back up the river again. Worked out pretty well expect in a few spots where it got too shallow and the current picked up. But definitely a favorite activity during the vacation :)

Papa, Sparky, & Grandma heading down the river - this was our 2nd time kayaking and so decided to bring sparky along. He loved jumping out of the boat to go swimming in the river. He tried desperately to get into our boat (probably to be near Jacob), but was unsuccessful.

Jacob & Mama - Jacob was great at relaxing in the kayak eating his snacks while Daddy paddled us around

Jacob tries out tent camping....sorta

We brought along the tent this year so Daddy & Jacob could try sleeping in it under the stars. Jacob really enjoyed setting it up, but then got a little scared to actually sleep in it. We'll try it out sometime on the porch up in Pine first. And perhaps there will be a tent camping trip with the whole family once baby sister has arrived...
